What happens before the tour ?
The meeting point is outside The Beehive Inn, in Grassmarket:18-20 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2JU. A ticketing person in a bright vest will be waiting for you. Please arrive in good time for a prompt 7.30pm start and be ready to present your online tickets to the ticketing person prior to the tour.
Printed online tickets are not required, as long as the client can supply proof of purchase via smartphone. Your ticket is only valid for the tour you have booked. If you aren’t able to attend your tour please advise us and we will attempt to place you on a later one, subject to availability.
For student concession, please present a personal student card to the ticketing person. Under 18’s are not allowed to enter pubs. Scottish licensing laws are very strict and actually quite non-European (sorry about that). Under 25s may be asked for ID so it’s a good idea to bring yours with you.
What happens during the tour ?
The tour starts inside the Beehive Inn, in Grassmarket, where the opening scene is performed for around 15m. The group proceeds to the Jolly Judge, in James Court. Here we visit the pub for drinks and the actors perform the second scene outside, in James Court. There is a small break of 15m before proceeding to the Makars’ Court area where the third scene is performed for around 15m. The tour finishes in Rose Street where the closing scene is performed for around 20m at the Mound

What time does the tour start?
The tour starts at 7.30 pm. We like to leave on time so please join us five minutes before, otherwise, you might have to run to catch us! Please note, private tours might start at different times and locations as agreed upon by both parties.
How long does the tour last?
Approximately two hours, from 7.30 to 9.30 pm

How much walking is involved?
Not too much, we frequently stop for a rest in the pubs along the route. However please bear in mind that there are some stairs involved on our route.
Does the ticket price include the cost of any drinks?
Unfortunately not, otherwise we would have to charge you at least twice the price!
I can't make it on my scheduled tour date, can I reschedule to a different date?
We are sometimes able to transfer your tickets to another date subject to availability. Please contact us to find out more.
Can I pay by cash ?
Unfortunately we no longer take cash for in person bookings. Please book online through our website or you can buy a ticket in person using your credit card.
Can I pay by credit card?
Yes, you can! For both online and in person bookings.
Can I get a refund?
Tickets are only refunded at the discretion of the management. We must be provided with at least one weeks notice. We will be able to transfer your tickets to another suitable date, subject to availability. Please contact us for more information.
Does the tour run under rainy weather?
There are no restrictions about weather on the tour. However, if the conditions prove to be extremely severe, the tour might be cancelled. Under the usual Scottish rainy weather, the tour runs normally. Please be sure to come prepared with a jacket and/or an umbrella.
Can children come on the tour?
Unfortunately not. Scottish laws are very strict regarding the presence of under-18’s inside pubs and alcohol-related events and venues. Please find more information on the UK government website.
Is it possible to pick up snacks on the tour?
All the pubs sell the usual crisps and nuts. You are welcome to purchase some during the tour.
